Get ready for some tail-wagging good news!

A delightful pup named Arlene has been rescued from a tough past and is now on the hunt for her forever family in sunny Florida.

This sweet 5-year-old mixed-breed gal was saved from a dog-fighting ring and has been basking in the love at the SPCA of Brevard since January. Despite her rocky start, Arlene’s spirit is soaring high, and she’s ready to shower her new family with affection!

The folks at the shelter can’t stop raving about Arlene’s charming personality. Shelby Hicks, the shelter’s PR coordinator, says this pup is a total sweetheart who’s winning over everyone she meets—kids included! Arlene’s got a zest for life and a special love for playtime, especially when there’s a tennis ball involved.

Arlene’s been living her best life, exploring the world beyond the shelter through the Borrowed Buddies program.

Now, she’s dreaming of a cozy home with a warm bed and a family to call her own. She’d love to be the only pet so she can soak up all the love she’s been craving. Her adoption profile, written in her own “voice,” is bursting with optimism: “I just want a family to show me what true love feels like!” With her cropped ears and big heart, Arlene’s ready to prove she’s a lover, not a fighter.

Arlene’s story is a pawsitively uplifting tale of resilience and hope, and she’s ready to wag her way into your heart.

🧠 Top Training Tips of the Week

Today, we will highlight 3 training tips for new dog owners. In later weeks, we will focus in on specific techniques and proven training that is both fun for dogs and owners.

  1. Use positive reinforcement techniques:
Reward your dog for good behavior to reinforce positive actions, rather than punishing bad behavior. Avoid unintentionally rewarding unwanted actions, like barking or jumping, by withholding attention until the dog is calm.

  2. Train little and often: Keep training sessions short (five minutes max) and repeat them throughout the day for better effectiveness. Practice in various locations, with different people, and amidst distractions to help your dog generalize commands.

  3. Build up in stages: Start with small, simple steps when teaching complex behaviors or modifying unwanted ones. Gradually add more steps as your dog masters each part, making it easier to achieve the full behavior.

Protect your pet and wallet against rising costs

Some pet surgeries can cost as much as $10,000.

Pet insurance can provide up to 90% reimbursement for covered accidents and illnesses.

My favorite thing to do in my foster home was cuddle up next to my foster parents and sleep. I would do wonderful in a home with a female dog. I may be a bit shy in my room but make an appointment to meet me and see my true personality! 🐾⛰️
